Nordstream is the new Rubicon
Anyone who has been paying attention to the news will have heard about the sabotage on the Nordstream pipelines supplying gas from Russia to Germany and onwards to much of the rest of Europe. The significance of this event though is lost on many in the west, I presume because the “Russia Bad” attitude is pretty much ingrained in the Pax Americana. But if you think about it for a few seconds, then this is not only a big deal, but a “Crossing the Rubicon” moment.
What were these pipelines in actuality?
They are a vital piece of infrastructure located in international waters, owned by a consortium of companies, many of which are domiciled in either Russia or Germany, the two countries on either ends of it. The pipeline's installation and maintenance is the responsibility of this consortium, and upheld by international law that covers infrastructure located in international waters.
International waters are littered with pipelines of all sorts. Oil, Gas, power, telecommunications, water, etc… The bottom of the north sea for example is littered with tubes of all kinds, like an angry toddler throwing their bowl of spaghetti on the ground. They are a vital part of the interconnected globalised world that has brought us iPhones, Nikes, and BMWs. Press send on an email and your data is wheezing down into a net of some undersea fibre optics cables and appearing at the other end in milliseconds. Zoom calls, Telegram messages, etc… The manic push to greenify power grids with wind and solar will put yet more such infrastructure on sea beds in international waters in the near future.
Till September 27th 2022, international law protecting this pipeline and all other such infrastructure was sacrosanct. Ostensibly this security was underwritten by the might of the Pax Americana navies (we can call it just the US navy really). Although, in reality, such enforcement was not really needed simply because they are hard to get at, being deep underwater most of the time, and doing functional damage to them while not getting caught is very hard to do.
I was completely gobsmacked when NATO, and the US, and their stenographers (MSM) ran with the narrative that Russia did it. Ah yeah, the old Putin ate my homework meme. I don't want to denigrate anyone, but anyone who believes that one is drowning in the kool aid. A completely evidence free claim.
To believe this claim, one must also believe:
Russia, after investing a boat load of money to build the pipe, and they stood to make a nice income from it too, thought it a good idea to blow it up. Not just shut off the tap, but blow it up for good;
And that they were able to do this right under the noses of Denmark, and Sweden and the US navy that constantly patrols the body of water where it happened;
We could add in the qui bono argument virtually said out aloud by Brandon and multiple other high ranking US politicians and bureaucrats. They basically told the world they would end NS2 if Russia crossed into Ukraine. Are we surprised then to learn that following its (NS2) destruction, exports of LNG from the US to Europe rose sharply. Btw, Norway got a nice bump in its exports of more expensive natural gas to Europe as well.
Interesting how Seymour Hersh, in the absence of any kind of details from NATO or the US to back up the claims Russia did it, managed to piece together a very detailed and strongly logical story of who did and how. Since Feb 8, 2023, when he published the findings of his investigation, the hegemon has been suspiciously silent to this most serious accusation, and coming from Sy Hersh, all the more serious.
Looks like this incident is being memory holed with all possible speed and force, (look up, see the spy balloon!) but as with each such incident, we get another peak behind the curtains of power. A glimpse of how power is really working. What did I learn?
Germany is still an occupied nation. The gilded cage that they've been in for most of the last 70 years remains, and the US is now an irritated and nervous gatekeeper. Germany cannot be allowed to develop according to its own wishes, so no more energy cooperation with Russia. Considering Germany’s economic, and by extension political domination of the EU relies on cheap energy products from Russia, this is a blow to all of Europe that is yet to shake it to its core, but a huge win for the gatekeeper.
The US is willing to rule over a heap of ashes rather than let its colonies have independent control over their foreign or economic affairs. Blowing up infrastructure which amounts to a terrorist act, is now on the table.
Pax Americana has a far greater grip of the organs of global governance than we thought. The deafening silence from the UN on the issue is very telling! No wonder they are in fear of independent bloggers and citizen journalists.
Pax Americana is waning with a growing speed. As the US$ loses its grip on the world, largely because it's now been weaponised via unilateral sanctions, the US will resort more readily to military methods. As if they have not already done so with great regularity. Buckle up for more war for peace from the hegemon.
